Rotary cutting, precise piecing, and perfect pressing - these three elements are the foundation of the quilt making process. These are pre-requisites of most projects and classes. In this class, you will learn the proper use of the rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, including safety and maintenance, while cutting strips and geometric shapes quickly and accurately.
An accurate and consistent /4" seam allowance is the key to precise piecing. Every sewing machine and 1/4" presser foot is different, but with a little set-up and practice, you will find your perfect seam allowance in no time. The final element of the patchwork process is perfect pressing (say that three times!). Learn to press your pieced units properly, avoiding puckers and pleats. |

Needlework samplers were an essential aspect of a girl's education. No young woman would have been deemed truly accomplished without a thorough understanding of hand stitching.
Rebecca Devaney informs us that in addition to practical training, samplers also had a role in seduction. Oh là là!
We'll be diving into the first of Rebecca's, Samplers of Seduction boxes. She calls this first box A Brief Dictionary of Stitches which is apt because learning to stitch is much like learning a language. Each stitch is a word - the more stitches we master, the richer our work becomes.
Join me for a full day of guided hand stitching. |
