Principal Update

Dear All

How are you? ATTFE College care about you, your learning and your well-being. If at any point you are feeling low, struggling with a personal issue or life feels miserable then please feel free to alert your tutor or one of our well-being ambassadors. Together we can seek out strategies that might help to ease a situation and make you feel better and brighter. The ATTFE College staff team have a wealth of experience to support you and we genuinely do seek to ensure that everyone's (staff, governors and learners) well-being is the best that it can be. Our website has a dedicated well-being section on it with a wealth of free resources for you to access at any time. Please feel free to share these with friends and family too.

ATTFE College take time and care to link in with learners after they have left the College to see what you are doing. This work links to capturing your destination and seeing the impact of lifelong learning. Many people take the opportunity during these follow up calls to talk through future learning that they wish to engage in. This is to be encouraged. ATTFE College is a community resource which allows any member of our community to access FREE Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance [CEIAG] at any point. If you, a friend or family member would benefit from a FREE CEIAG session then please email our CEIAG Advisor, Heather via h.bowerman@attfe.org.uk.

We are currently experiencing an increase in safeguarding cases within the College for many different reasons. Should you yourself have a safeguarding concern / issue or know anyone in your class who does then please do let your tutor know immediately. All ATTFE College staff are trained to help with safeguarding and we have a robust process in place to ensure that each case is fully supported. Whilst safeguarding cases often highlight a particularly difficult moment in time for a learner, together we are often to find positive and secure resolutions which create for better and brighter times.

Safeguarding Update

Hello Everyone

We have talked before about the increased risks of radicalisation and extremism during the lockdown, especially with everybody spending more time online and being potentially more vulnerable to extreme views and influences.

This risk comes from many different groups and 'lone actor' individuals with harmful ideological views. They seek to recruit other people, usually at the risk of great harm to them and to others.

In north Nottinghamshire the greatest risk by far is from extreme right-wing groups. These are the most active extremist and terrorist organisations in the area. They include a number of groups in north Notts. that have been 'proscribed' by the Government. This means that they have been banned and that it is illegal to be a member of them or to be associated with them. To break this law carries a 10-year prison sentence and several people have been successfully prosecuted for this. Please see below a brief outline of the name and symbols used by these groups.

It is very important that you are able to recognise these and protect yourself (and others) against any approach from them. If you are concerned for yourself or for another learner then please contact us through our safeguarding contacts or talk to any member of staff who you feel most comfortable with.

I cannot believe we are only 4 weeks away from the end of the college year!

If you are returning to us in September 2021, please make sure you have completed your enrolment forms and initial assessments. Please pop in to see Shelly on reception at Dukeries or your tutors at Sutton.

Here are a few key things that will be happening in the next few weeks:

• You will be receiving your learner reports to parents /carers next week in the post
• There are still places available for a free swim, please let me and shelly know so we can book it for you
• Construction learners have the opportunity to visit an Ashfield District Council building site week commencing the 4^th of July 2021. Please speak to your tutor for information
• Open Day - If you know anyone that would like to come and visit us, to see if they would like to study with us from September 2021 please refer them to Shelly.
• Learner celebration awards.

Jo and Rosie- Childcare and Employability

HUGE congratulations to Chloe G who has been offered a job as a Care and Support Worker, she is due to finish her L2 course on Thursday and has been an outstanding student this year. Well done Chloe, we will miss you!

Libby and Lillie have both been actively looking for roles in the Childcare sector when they finish their course with us, good luck and we will miss you next year!

Owen and Glen - Motor Vehicle

A massive thank you to all of the motor vehicle learners who have been so very patient with us over the course of the last term. It’s not been easy for you but you have shown so much resilience throughout.

What a great attitude towards their work the construction learners demonstrated this week! They were focused and respectful of the visitor!

Cordelia and Megan have been working hard to meet their assessment units, especially the colouring unit!

Jeannette and Wendy - Childcare

Will S and Carly S have both gained employment through placements and have almost completed their qualification. You have both worked so hard.

Well done to Bradley D who has also got a part time job, has developed an extremely positive and mature attitude towards work and studies

Massive shout out to tutors Clare F and Amanda T for working hard to keep the Fare share social supermarket going in Ollerton. It is going from strength to strength every week. We ran out of food half way through the last session due to high demand! Jamella M our volunteer is doing amazing work to support ATTFE and the local community.

Wellbeing Activity

Managing Anxiety - 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding technique

Being overwhelmed with emotions and anxious thoughts can happen to anyone at any time. These feelings make our thoughts race out of control where we often then conjure up terrifying scenarios and fears. We need to bring ourselves back to the present moment to escape these thoughts and feelings. There are many good ways to combat an anxiety spiral such as meditation, yoga or therapy, but the beauty of this technique is that you can practice it anytime and anywhere, especially when you find yourself completely overwhelmed.

Why not try out the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding exercise which is a simple, yet effective and powerful coping technique to help bring you back to the present moment. It's easy to do and good to have in your toolkit should you ever need it.
