Aasraa celebrates 10 years of impacting the lives of slum & street children

What started with 35 children on the streets of Dehradun a decade ago is now impacting the lives of 3,250 underprivileged children.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors and supporters for holding our hands in this exhilarating journey so far.

Aasraa Partners with The State Education Department and The Education Alliance under the School Quality Enhancement Project (SQEP)

The triumvirate partnership gives Aasraa the mandate to transform six government schools into centres of excellence. Featured here are Mr. M. Sundaram (Education Secretary), Mr. S.B. Joshi (Additional State Project Director - Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan), Mr. Atresh Sayana (Expert Pedagogy - Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan) and Mr. Indramani Balodi (City Education Officer) with the Principals of the concerned schools at an official meeting.

New Mobile Learning Centre for Aasraa

Geneva based Action for the Support of Deprived Children (ASED) donated a 32-seater mobile learning centre (MLC) to Aasraa in March 2019. Ms. Sudha Parthasarathy, India Country Manager, ASED was present to launch the MLC which will provide educational support to 350 marginalized children in Dehradun.

Fair for All… BridgeAble’s Fundraising Event for Aasraa

Singapore based BridgeAble organized their third NGO Products fair in April 2019 to support Aasraa and her children. Heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Ramya Nageswaran, BridgeAble Team and our advisory board member Ms. Mandira Rana for their loving support in meeting their target to raise funds for the food truck required for distribution of food to Aasraa centers.


Inspection Visit

Mr. Rabindra Panwar, Secretary, Women and Child Development (WCD), Govt. of India, Ms. Radha Raturi, Additional Chief Secretary, Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD), Govt. of Uttarakhand, Major Yogendra Yadav, Director, WECD Uttarakhand and other officers visited our open shelter home in ISBT area for regular inspection.

Donor Visit

Ms. Sangeeta Sabherwal of help alliance, sponsor of one of our Wings of Doon projects, visited the centre at Unnayan Shiksha Kendra. 200 children benefit from remedial education, computer aided learning, nutrition and healthcare.


Workshop on Child Safety and Protection

Muktha Foundation facilitated a three day session on prevention of child sexual abuse for Aasraa teachers and children. The session was facilitated by Ashwini N.V, Director, and Annette Shaju, Psychoeducator at Muktha Foundation. 

Immunization against Typhoid

Max India Foundation organized an immunization drive against typhoid for 170 children at Unnayan Shiksha Kendra, our after school remedial project supported by help alliance.

Open Schooling Achievers

Geeta, our oldest student, mother of three children and wife of a daily wage worker is now a proud Level B pass-out of the Open Basic Education programme of NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling).

Rosy, our NIOS program alumnus, who passed level C in 2018 and was mainstreamed into a government school in class 9, has topped her class this year.
