For the past year, digitalization and digital mobility solutions have been in the spotlight around the world due to the COVID-19 crisis. This has also highlighted the need for a better understanding of the impacts of digitalisation on our society and user requirements when using digital mobility services, such as car sharing, shared e-scooters, route planners, delivery boxes and goods delivery services.
While the COVID-19 crisis has had a negative impact on all of us and made our work in the INDIMO project quite difficult, it has also helped to direct more attention to the problems of vulnerable groups such as older people, people with disabilities, and women with caring responsibilities.
Our first research results, based on 70 interviews with users and non-users of digital mobility services and more than 80 interviews with stakeholders have helped us better understand the goals, needs, challenges of vulnerable people, operators, developers and policy makers. This provides a solid basis for the next step in the project, the development of the INDIMO Digital Mobility Toolkit that aims to achieve a step change in how digital mobility services are designed and operated. The commitment of our local communities of practice and the INDIMO Co-creation Community have enabled us to make significant progress towards the INDIMO vision of an inclusive and accessible transport system.
This second INDIMO newsletter will give you an insight into these first results, as well as the dedicated work of our pilot partners in Emilia-Romagna, Madrid, Berlin, Antwerp and Galilee.
Please stay tuned for more (hopefully in-person) encounters with INDIMO in the coming months.
