Happy New Year!
As many of you will know, 2022 is Year of the Tiger in the Chinese and Japanese zodiacs. The tiger sign is a symbol of strength, exorcising evils and braveness. The daring nature of the tiger will help push us forward throughout the year.
We hope everyone has had a positive start to the academic year and enjoyed being back with students, despite the obvious challenges and unpredictability that we are facing. In times like this, the value of being connected through professional associations is even more significant.
So far this year, the elected Executive officers have been working on a new Strategic Plan that will guide the AFMLTA's work over the next three years. In Term 4 last year, Presidents of each state and territory languages teacher association participated in a review of the previous plan and provided input for the new one. We have incorporated perspectives from across the country and are happy to share it with you below and on our website.
The National Languages Plan and Strategy project is entering its final phase and will be formally submitted to the Federal government this year. The participation of teachers across Australia in the surveys and focus groups has provided rich and insightful perspectives that have informed recommendations within the project reports. AFMLTA is grateful to all those who contributed and we feel optimistic about the actions and strategies that may result from this project.
On behalf of the Executive officers, we are looking forward to working with you all again this year.
Nathan
