A Message from our Director

“We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something” - Mother Theresa –

Well, what a year 2020 has been for all of us …….. our “oceans” have been both spectacular and disruptive.

The excitement has mounted to welcome you to the launch edition of our Child Welfare Germiston Newsletter! In an amazing history of 108 years we have finally put together a Newsletter for you. Why???

It is important for us to show you HOW Child Welfare Germiston makes a difference. More importantly, we want to also emphasise how the drop that you represent as a supporter, donor, service provider and friend of Child Welfare Germiston – makes a difference in our ocean of services.

This will be a monthly newsletter filled with snippets of success, challenges, events and information that we trust will keep you updated on our activities and services.

As a last thought …. Mahatma Gandhi said “start to shake the world in a gentle way”, take hands knowing that “Together Protecting Children” is the way we will shake the world in a gentle way ….

Our 108th Birthday!

Did you know?

In 1912 community members of Germiston put hands and hearts together and started serving vulnerable children and families living in Germiston. Concerns at the time were the high mortality rate of young children in South Africa, child labor and child neglect due to poverty. And so Child Welfare Germiston was founded.

We received so many messages on this special day! Visit our Facebook page to see them all!

Virtual Quiz Night Fundraiser

The Virtual Quiz Night, sponsored by Shaun Tucker of Quiz Master Productions, was so much fun! The winning teams all generously donated their prizes back to us which means that together with the ticket takings, we raised enough money to buy supplies to pack 4 complete Baby's 1st Boxes! Thank you once again for all your support and make sure to keep a look out for upcoming fundraisers!

Online Annual General Meeting

Today was a historic day for Child Welfare Germiston. We hosted our first ever online Annual General Meeting. It was great to have people present who may otherwise not have been able to join us. Thank you everyone who attended, participated and contributed towards the AGM.

We were able to reflect on the activities and impact over the past financial year, celebrate our wins and share our challenges. We appreciate the support, time and commitment shown towards the work we do. Special thanks to our Keynote speaker - Kenny Archer from Archer Inspirations encouraging us to invest in our growth and change the way we do business.

The meeting was ended with a special announcement of a donation from two of our greatest supporters. The impact of COVID-19 on our fundraising efforts has been significant and this donation is greatly appreciated and valued. If you missed out on this year's AGM .... no worries - you can join us next year.

The Joy of Parenting

In most instances anticipating the birth of a baby brings a lot of joy. “When children are born, they do not come with directives as how to raise them” is a common expression.
