Hey . . .
Would you mind if I shared a business strategy with you?
I’m honestly not sure if this is something that will work for you in your business, but I’m still happy to share and let you decide for yourself.
One of the challenges that I faced early on in my business was gaining people’s trust.
I mean, if you think about it, it’s not easy to go onto an unfamiliar website, pick out a business card design you like, and place an order, all without immediately getting to see the end result.
But this is how most business card companies do business. You pay first, then wait for someone to send you an email so you can see the proof and hope it all works out.
What if you’re not happy with it? Will they let you make changes? How about switch to another design? Or will they refund your money if it comes to that?
That’s why I decided early on to try a different approach. At Elegant Business Cards, you get to select a design you like, request a free proof, and then, if you like it, you can order your cards.
Does this mean I end up doing some work for free? Yes. Does it mean I sometimes have to make extra changes for a client? Yes. Does it mean that some potential clients never even get back to me? You bet it does!
But I’m okay with that!
Why? Because I’ve found some pretty awesome clients this way! Clients who love working with me and appreciate the effort I put into making them look good.
And this approach has also helped open the door to another business card product we offer, a Mobile Business Card. I’ll be the first to tell you that our mobile card is not for everyone, but even some of my clients who weren’t interested in it agree that it’s pretty cool.
The point is, without offering them that initial free business card proof, they may have never become a client in the first place, and now, I at least get to help them with their paper business cards.
Anyway, like I said before, I’m not sure if this strategy is one that could be adapted to work for you in your business, but worst case, maybe it helps you come up with some new ideas.
Take care, Ron Schrader
