David's Comment: The Hamas Attack on Israel Could Ignite a Much Broader Conflict
My title for this brief comment may seem like an exaggeration, and I wish it was, but the situation that is developing leads me to believe it is a real possibility, and others have said the same thing. As we all know, Hamas started this latest round of war with the brutal massacre and kidnapping of more than 1400 Israeli soldiers and civilians, from babies to senior citizens, one of whom was a 90 year old Holocaust survivor who was executed by a bullet in the back of her head. Thousands of rockets have been fired into Israel, killing and injuring more civilians, and damaging hundreds of homes. Israel has retaliated with a very heavy bombing campaign against Hamas, which is embedded amongst the civilian population in Gaza. Thousands of terrorists and unfortunately many civilians have also been killed and injured, and massive damage has been done in many parts of Gaza, creating a major humanitarian crisis. The explosion at the hospital in Gaza, which Israel insists was cause by a failed Islamic Jihad rocket has further inflamed the situation, locally and internationally. It is an extremely complicated and difficult situation for everyone.
Over the last week there has been several incidents on the northern border with Lebanon and Syria, with Hezbollah claiming responsibility for some of the rockets and shooting attacks. We are praying that Hezbollah does not do what Iran and Hamas are wanting them to do - that is to launch a full scale attack against Israel, as they are known to have more than 200,000 advanced missiles, and most likely chemical and biological warheads also. Israel alone would not be able to defend itself against such an attack, with conventional weapons.
The USA and the UK defense ministries understand the threat that Iran and Hezbollah pose to the future of Israel and have sent warships to the Eastern Mediterranean as a deterrent. The USA has sent 2 of their most powerful aircraft carriers and their accompanying fleet, and the UK has sent 2 warships and Royal Air Force surveillance aircraft. This is good news for Israel, but the Russians are not happy about it, as they are more closely aligned with Iran and Syria than with Israel. As we all know, President Putin is a very dangerous man, who does not like to be seen to be marginalised. The relationship between Putin and the key Western leaders is already strained over the Russian war with Ukraine. Therefore this defensive backing of Israel by the USA and the UK, could bring Russian into the scenario, and if Iran and Hezbollah get fully involved, these warships may have to provide more than a deterrent, maybe ending up in a confrontation with Iranian and Russian navy and air power, as well as trying to protect Israel from the massive Hezbollah missile arsenal.
That is a worst case scenario that no-one wants to even consider, and the key to that not happening is preventative prayer. So please join with us and multitudes of others who are praying that the LORD will restrain Iran and Hezbollah from launching a full scale attack on Israel, and for a supernatural and quick victory for Israel, as in the Six Day War of 1967. Pray Psalm 91 and Psalm 83 and as the Holy Spirit leads you.
The LORD bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on all of the land given to the Jewish people by the GOD of Israel. Please pray that all of the Jewish people will return to Israel and turn back to their GOD and Messiah. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for a breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray Divine protection for all of the soldiers in the IDF.
Shabbat Shalom ... David & Josie
