Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Maybe it’s because it asks so little of us—no shopping lists, no perfect decorations, no pressure to perform. Just the simple, sacred act of gathering, eating, and giving thanks.
This year, gratitude feels especially necessary. Herb’s recent health challenges reminded me how fragile and precious our time together really is. Losing my daughter-in-law, Sarah’s mom, Rhonda, to brain cancer was another painful lesson in how quickly life can change.
And after my own “elective surgery adventure,” complete with its share of drama and humility, I’m more aware than ever of how much we take for granted when our bodies and hearts are working as they should.
So this Thanksgiving, I’m not just grateful for the feast or the family photos. I’m thankful for resilience—for the way love carries us through fear, loss, and the chaos of recovery. I’m thankful for laughter at the table, for helping hands and open hearts, even when they’re tired.
Gratitude doesn’t erase the hard stuff; it gives it meaning.
Happy Thanksgiving, all! Let's celebrate resilience and the people who hold us up.
