Help Pick Up Trash to Keep Our Streams Clean
Friday, April 24 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Starts at Irvine Nature Center (11201 Garrison Forest Road)
Irvine Nature Center is seeking 100 participants for a day of trash and debris clean up from nearby roadways. If left alone, this litter would make its way into streams and ultimately into the Chesapeake. Come alone or gather a group! For decades, Project Clean Stream has served as a regional effort to gather trash from streams, creeks, rivers, parks and neighborhoods—raising awareness of environmental stewardship. Irvine is proud to partner with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.
To Participate: Click here and complete the registration form. This free public event is for ages 18+.

Friends from Irvine Nature Center Join Us This Weekend for Green Sunday
Sunday, April 19 10:00 a.m. Service & Fellowship Hour Parish Hall
Brooks Paternotte, former executive director of Irvine Nature Center, will discuss watershed restoration and environmental protection efforts in our area. He will also introduce CeCe Carter, the new executive director, and they will engage with parishioners during fellowship.
W. Brooks Paternotte Bio: Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Brooks started developing his affinity for spending time outside while on weekend camping trips with friends and neighbors growing up. This passion blossomed once his family began vacationing in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York where he enjoyed hiking, climbing, and fishing. After graduating with degrees in English and Classical Languages from Colgate University, Brooks launched into nearly two decades of teaching and administrating in Baltimore independent schools. Along the way he earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University and became an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). When the opportunity to lead Irvine Nature Center presented itself in 2013, he was finally able to combine his love of nature and the outdoors with the skills developed as a classroom teacher and school administrator. He currently serves on the boards of Garrison Forest School, The Owings Mills Corporate Round Table, and Baltimore County Rec and Parks. Brooks particularly enjoys spending time with his family, fly-fishing, and hunting with his black Labrador, Lucy.
CeCe Carter Bio: A conservation leader who believes the most effective solutions start with people and their connection to place, CeCe Carter currently serves as Executive Director of Irvine Nature Center, where she focuses on expanding access to nature through environmental education, land stewardship, and community-centered programming. CeCe cares deeply about creating welcoming spaces where people of all ages can explore the outdoors, build curiosity, and develop a lasting relationship with the natural world. Before Irvine, CeCe spent more than a decade working in conservation across the U.S., Africa, and Asia. Those experiences reinforced a core belief that guides her work today: conservation is strongest when it’s rooted in listening, local knowledge, and shared ownership of natural resources. CeCe is energized by building strong teams, partnering with communities, and supporting work that makes conservation feel relevant, inclusive, and impactful.

How the Teachings of Richard Rohr and Brené Brown Support Our Faith Journey
Saturday, April 18 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Parish Hall
Join the Rev. Arianne Rice for a reflective and spacious day retreat exploring how the teachings of Richard Rohr and Brené Brown can deepen and enrich our faith.
Both Rohr and Brown invite us into a more wholehearted spirituality that honors growth, embraces vulnerability, and trusts that our lives are unfolding even when it feels as though they are unraveling. Rohr’s contemplative theology helps us see how the power of divine love invites us again and again to move toward spiritual maturity through the transitions, disappointments and difficulties of our experience. Brown’s research on courage, shame and belonging gives us practical ways to learn from our lives and examine the stories that shape how we see and interpret our experience.
Together, their work reminds us that vulnerability is not weakness, but where we find our wisdom within our faith journey. The imperfections, doubts, and struggles are not obstacles to spiritual life; they are the very places where God meets us.
This class will include teaching, guided personal reflection, and small group conversation. You’ll leave with language, practices, and insights you can continue to draw on in your own spiritual journey.
Whether you are navigating change, growing into the next season of your life, or longing to integrate your inner life with your outer commitments, this time together offers a grounded and hopeful path toward spiritual growth and formation.

Learn More
This kickoff event is purely informational and celebratory. There will be no financial solicitation or requests for giving. It is simply an opportunity to come together as a parish family, hear the vision, ask questions, and give thanks for the future God is unfolding at St. Thomas.’
This campaign is about stewarding the gifts entrusted to us and preparing St. Thomas’ for a strong, faithful future. During the kickoff, you will be able to learn more about the important priorities that will help sustain and grow our ministry for generations to come:
- Strengthening and Preserving: Charting the course for short- and long-term care of our treasured and historic (nearly 300 years!) church home for those who follow us.
- Growing St. Thomas’ Community Outreach as a Servant Church: Allowing St. Thomas’ to continue deepening our connection, impact, and service in the wider community.
- Embracing Youth Ministry: Ensuring vibrant formation and faith development for our youngest members and the future generations of parishioners.

| Help Provide Food and Life Essentials to Owings Mills Households in Need! |
|
|
|
|
The Community Crisis Center has been addressing hunger and hardship in the Owings Mills area by providing our neighbors in need with supplemental food and essentials for over 40 years, rebuilding hope and self-reliance. They recently lost a major donor and face rising food costs and funding cuts—all while serving more and more families every month (they served 175 monthly in 2019 and now serve over 1,000 monthly).
How You Can Help the Most Right Now:
- Purchasing specific priority items listed to the below and dropping them off at the Parish Office. Note: CCC Priorities have changed to now include bar soap and shampoo. Our goal is 75+ for each item, each month.
- Giving financially to support food purchases (see why below). To Donate, click here and select “Outreach - Community Crisis Center” in the menu.
Questions? Please contact Margaret Green.
|
|
|
|
| Your Financial Gift Doubles the Amount of Food You Can Give |
|
|
When the Community Crisis Center spends a dollar through the Maryland Food Bank, it can buy roughly twice as much food as that same dollar can buy at a local grocery store. St. Thomas’ asks you to consider donating financially so we can multiply our impact and feed more Owings Mills households in need. To Donate: Click here and select “Outreach - Community Crisis Center.”
