Principal Update

Dear All

I would like you to please take a moment to reflect on three things that you have learnt this week from your class. What are they? how will you hold on to this new knowledge? Repetition has been identified as a key tool in supporting us to hold on to new knowledge and embed it deeper.

We have two new ATTFE College staff members. These are Billy who works with our Dukeries construction team and Emma who works with on our Programme of Study provision. I know that you will join myself and Team ATTFE College in making them feel very welcome.

ATTFE College opened the 'A Time To Feed Everyone' social shop in Ollerton this week. It is a fabulous initiative which focuses upon reducing supermarket surplus whilst supporting individuals / families to access good quality food including fruit, vegetables, tins, meat etc to the value of £10-£15. You simply sign up to member (which costs £1) and then pay £3.50 which you visit. It really is a great approach to shopping. This shop is open to anyone. Simply turn up at the LifeSpring Church in Ollerton on a Thursday 1-3pm and make your purchases! There will be 'A Time To Feed Everyone' shop opening in Sutton in June 2021 so keep following our social media for further details on this.

'Shine' is our theme of the month for May which is perfect as there are many learners shining brightly right now. It is always lovely to visit your classes as see what new skills you are learning and how your subject knowledge is deepening.

Safeguarding Update

Hello Everyone

Our 'I Want to Talk' button is now live on our website. This enables you to contact us online 24/7 and let us know any concern that you have, whether for yourself or for another student.

To use it, go to the 'Learner Life' tab at the top of our main website page and then choose the 'I Want to Talk' drop down box. When you enter your attfe.org.uk email address, the online form lets you fill in and let us know whatever is of concern to you.

You have to use your attfe.org.uk email address because obviously we have to know who to get back to about whatever the issue or concern is. The system then sends an alert through the safeguarding team who will pick it up and be back in touch with you as quickly as possible. The system is completely confidential and nobody other than ATTFE's safeguarding team will know that you have used the system or sent in a concern.

You can still use the other ways of raising a concern such as:

We have written in this Newsletter before about the local risks (in North Nottinghamshire) of extreme right-wing radicalisation and terrorism. One thing to be aware of is that the right-wing group Atomwaffen has now been 'proscribed' by the Government. That means it has been made illegal and being associated with it is likely to end up with 10 years in prison. The same applies to its 'alias' group (e.g. same group but going by a different name) New Socialist Order. It is obviously important to be aware of this and to report to us any publicity or activity that you see from these organisations.

A MASSIVE Thank You and Well Done to all our learners - you are legends!

Motor Vehicle and Construction - Firstly, I would like to thank all learners from motor vehicles and the brickwork courses for their ongoing patience whilst we “sort out” classroom and practical area issues. You have been wonderful.

Hair and Beauty - Shout out to Beth H and Kaci G. Upon their return to the salon from the intense, but enjoyable maths and English mastery classes, they have worked really hard towards their assignments and assessments.

Childcare and Employability SCA - Well done to:

- Nathan B for his work on 'future career as a paramedic' in lesson

- Chloe G for doing brilliantly in placement

- Demi for all her hard work with her maths and English GCSEs

- Libby for 100% attendance and great attitude to learning

- Jayden, Nathan B and Chantelle for a fantastic start within their work experience.

Childcare TDA - Well done to the learners that have taken their basic food hygiene certificate to help run the social shop.

Subject Specialist Maths / Advanced Learner Loans Manager

English and maths

Calling all GCSE maths and English learners, please continue to attend your sessions and any additional sessions to ensure all assessments are completed to help with the Teacher Assessed Grades that need to be submitted. Evidence is crucial to submit fair grades. Many thanks to those learners who are attending and working hard with the tutors. This is a very intense month but our half term is in sight. Keep going for the next two weeks.

All continuing functional skills learners, you will have now received your new times for your maths and English sessions and these will be one to one support to help you achieve your exam. Please keep a note of these and come over to Open Learning and your sessions will be in F3 with Lyndsey.
